Something has shifted in me lately.
I feel a new sense of urgency, but it is not coming from fear. It feels like clarity. I am more aware of how much life I still want to experience and how many desires I have delayed while waiting for more time, more certainty, or the perfect moment.
A different kind of urgency
On this birthday, I keep returning to one thought: I want to leave this life empty.
Not exhausted or depleted. Empty because I used what was given to me.
I do not want to carry an unwritten book, an unexplored idea, or words I was too afraid to say. I want to visit the places that have stirred my curiosity, express love while people are here to receive it, forgive what no longer deserves space inside me, and tell the truth about who I am and what I want.
There are business ideas I have considered and then talked myself out of. Dreams I have made smaller so they would feel safer. Opportunities I have approached cautiously because I wanted to know exactly how everything would turn out.
I am beginning to understand that certainty is not a requirement for movement.
Movement does not require certainty
Sometimes the desire itself is enough reason to take the next step.
This does not mean I plan to move carelessly. It means I am no longer willing to confuse fear with wisdom. I can be thoughtful without overthinking. I can prepare without postponing. I can acknowledge the risks without allowing them to make every decision.
There is something freeing about realizing that not everything has to become a success to be worth attempting. Some experiences are meant to teach us. Some ideas lead us to better ones. Some journeys change us even when they do not unfold the way we imagined.
I would rather adjust along the way than remain in the same place wondering what might have happened.
This season is calling me to participate more fully in my own life. To write, create, travel, speak, build, love, and forgive while I have the opportunity. To stop waiting for permission to pursue what has already been placed in my heart.
I know there will still be moments of hesitation. Courage does not mean fear disappears. It means fear is no longer in charge.
A birthday commitment
So this birthday feels different.
It is not simply a celebration of another year lived. It is a commitment to the years ahead.
I want to reach the end knowing that I did not keep my gifts in storage. That I gave my ideas room to breathe. That the people I loved knew it. That I allowed myself to be seen, heard, stretched, surprised, and changed.
I am not saving myself for someday anymore. I am here. I am ready. I’m on go.
