Facts & FAQs About Coaching with Denise
You don’t need another confusing bio.
Here’s everything you need to know about how I work, all in one place.
1. Who are you and what do you do?
Q: Who are you and what do you do?
A: I’m Denise T. Taylor, MBA, MSW Candidate, a life and business coach based in Maryland and the founder of The Brave Centre.
I support people who carry a lot—emotionally, mentally, and practically—and are ready for more clarity, boundaries, and ease in their everyday lives and work.
I’m in the advanced year of my Master of Social Work program with a clinical concentration and have 3+ years of coaching experience. My approach is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and real-life focused.
2. Who do you work with?
Q: Who is your coaching for?
A: I work with adults of different backgrounds and identities who are:
- High-functioning but tired or stretched thin
- Over-responsible, overcommitted, or often last on their own list
- Balancing school, work, caregiving, community, business, or all of the above
- Wanting calmer days, clearer boundaries, and less resentment
You do not have to be perfect, “healed,” or have it all together. You just have to be honest about where you are and open to support.
3. Are you a therapist?
Q: Are you a therapist?
A: I am an advanced-year MSW student with clinical training, but I am not yet independently licensed and I am not providing therapy through The Brave Centre.
In this space, I am functioning only as a life coach and business coach.
4. What’s the difference between coaching and therapy with you?
Q: What’s the difference between coaching and therapy in your case?
A: Because I have clinical training, it’s important to keep things clear.
- Coaching with me focuses on your present and near future: boundaries, burnout, decisions, transitions, habits, and how you’re living day-to-day. We work on clarity, strategy, and support so you can move differently in your life and work.
- Therapy (which I do not offer through The Brave Centre) is mental health treatment. It includes diagnosis, in-depth trauma work, and regulated clinical interventions provided by a licensed professional.
My coaching is informed by my clinical training, but it is not psychotherapy or a substitute for mental health care.
Coaching services through The Brave Centre are educational and supportive in nature and are not a substitute for psychotherapy, medical care, or emergency services.
5. What’s the difference between life coaching and business coaching?
Q: What is the difference between life coaching and business coaching with you?
A: I offer two main types of coaching:
Life Coaching with Denise – Founders Rate: $65 / 60 minutes
Life coaching focuses on you as a whole person—your capacity, your feelings, your rhythms, and the reality of what you’re carrying.
Life coaching is a good fit if you want to work on things like:
- Boundaries with family, work, and yourself
- Over-functioning, people-pleasing, and burnout
- Routines, rest, and realistic habits that fit your actual life
- Life transitions: school, career, moves, relationships, caregiving, etc.
- Making decisions that honor your energy, values, and season
Business Coaching with Denise – Founders Rate: $125 / 60 minutes
Business coaching focuses on you as a business owner or entrepreneur.
Business coaching is a good fit if you want to work on things like:
- Clarifying your offers and who you serve
- Pricing, packaging, and boundaries around your work
- Time management and sustainable structure for your business
- Systems, workflows, and emotional load around being “the one in charge”
- Mindset around visibility, charging your worth, and being seen in your work
Session Format (for both):
- 60-minute sessions
- Held virtually (online)
- Centered on clarity → strategy → support so you leave with language and a plan, not just a nice chat
6. What do you not do?
Q: What is outside the scope of coaching with you?
A: Even with my clinical training, there are clear lines I do not cross in coaching. I do not:
- Offer therapy, counseling, or mental health treatment
- Diagnose or create clinical treatment plans
- Offer documentation for court, disability, work, or school
- Offer crisis or emergency services
- Prescribe or manage medication
If it becomes clear that you’d be better supported by therapy, I will be honest about that. If another level of care is more suitable, I will also let you know. I will encourage you to connect with a licensed mental health provider in your state.
7. What are your rates?
Q: How much does coaching with you cost?
A: Both of my coaching offers are now available at founders rates as I grow my practice:
- Life Coaching – Founders Rate
$65 per 60-minute virtual session - Business Coaching – Founders Rate
$125 per 60-minute virtual session
These are introductory founders rates and will increase as my caseload and offerings grow. If you’re interested, this is a good time to lock them in.
8. How do payments and cancellations work?
Q: How do I pay and what if I need to cancel?
A:
Payment
- Payment is due on the day of your session.
- I accept electronic payment (such as Zelle, Cash App, Venmo, or card).
- Full details are included in your welcome email once we schedule your first session.
Cancellations
- If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give at least 24 hours’ notice.
- Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged at the session rate, except in true emergencies.
This helps protect both your time and mine and keeps the space respectful.
9. Can I work with you if I’m already in therapy?
Q: Is it okay to work with you if I already have a therapist?
A: Yes, that can work well for some people.
- Therapy may focus more on healing, your history, and mental health symptoms.
- Coaching with me focuses more on how you’re living day-to-day—your boundaries, choices, routines, relationships, and business decisions.
Coaching is meant to complement, not replace, therapy. If you’re already in therapy, we can be thoughtful about how coaching supports the work you’re doing there.
10. Who is not a good fit for coaching with you?
Q: When is coaching with you not the right option?
A: Coaching with me is not the right fit if:
- You are in immediate crisis or having thoughts of harming yourself or others
- You need a diagnosis, medication management, or intensive clinical treatment
- You need documentation for court, school, work, or disability
- You are looking for someone to manage or direct your medical or psychiatric care
- You need emergency or crisis-level support
In those situations, a licensed therapist, psychiatrist, crisis line, or emergency service is the appropriate support.
11. What should I do in a crisis?
Q: What should I do if I’m in crisis?
A: I do not offer crisis or emergency services through The Brave Centre.
If you are in immediate danger or are having thoughts of harming yourself or others, please contact:
- Your local emergency number (for example, 911 in the U.S.)
- A local crisis hotline or emergency room
- A licensed mental health provider in your area
After you are safe and supported, we can always explore whether coaching is appropriate for you at a later time.
12. How do I get started?
Q: What’s the first step if I’m interested in working with you?
A:
- Fill out the contact form on my website or send me an email
- Share a few lines about where you are, what you’re carrying, and what you’re hoping for
- I’ll follow up to see if we’re a good fit and talk about next steps
You do not need perfect words. Just be honest:
“This is what I’m carrying, and this is what I’d like to be different.”
I’ll meet you there.
